- Each letter encodes a different interger from 1-8. These numbers indicate the number of consecutive cells shaded around them. There must be at least one unshaded cell between shaded regions.
- There must be one contiguous area of shaded cells, which is not allowed to contain 2x2 areas or any of the numbered cells.
The central cell of the example should read "a d" instead of "a b".
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late reply. When the old example was designed, back in 2014, the b was used to represent a "?" clue, which would have made the puzzle correct and unique.
ReplyDeleteI've updated the instructions now, as well as the example itself to bring it in line with more recent cipher tapas, however, please be advised that puzzle 232 works off these old rules where "?" was a valid choice.
